Just do it
Stumbled on this just when I thought about going back to journaling my workouts. Well this app does more than journaling but a fitness app all in one.
Tl:dr: essential Apple Watch app with a wealth of free features to interpret and act upon the data that your watch already collects. This is truly one of the best apps I’ve ever used. Though I preferred the old design of the app, it’s still incredibly strong and the best app to log every facet of your fitness and wellness. It’s been an incredible and holistic aid to my training. I especially like that, unlike other apps, it pulls from all of your daily activity for the strain score, not just activities that you track (so if I have an intense bike commute that I choose not to track, it’s still reflected in my strain score). It does a really good job helping users interpret the wealth of data that the Apple watch provides, its nutrition database has everything I’ve ever wanted to log, its macro tracking is excellent, and that’s just scratching the surface. Its strength training tracking is also pretty good and visualizes progress nicely. Though Bevel Pro and Bevel Intelligence aren’t strictly necessary, and the free version of the app is well worth the download, they’re great features for beginners and experienced athletes alike to interpret and act on the wealth of data that the Apple Watch collects, and much cheaper than comparable services from other hardware and software companies.
It’s not completely free, I saw this add on Instagram saying bevel was NOW FREE! and I was so excited that there was actually a fully free app, but then I downloaded it and haha nope. They ask you right off the bat to pay for a subscription. NO THANK YOU. Why does everything have to have a subscription. Some of us can’t afford that
All-in-one health/fitness/food/recovery tracker is a GREAT idea! But, the AI is VERY unreliable. It was hallucinating meals, calories, macros, and workouts that didn’t exist. It supposedly gathers info from apple health, but frequently just makes stuff up to panic over. Prime example: it somehow decided my HRV was 11 so all day it was full panic mode over this made up number to the point it was annoying, recommended naps all day, to the point it wanted me to stay home from work for a recovery day… give me a break!
Pretty sure the reviews are AI or sm because hey mention there is no subscription needed, but for there is a 7 day free trial and then a subscription. I’m not even sure if the app works because I didn’t pay it. Hope this helps.✌️
One of the best most comprehensive fitness apps out there. Love it.
This app is not free, but on Instagram, I saw a video of the founder and he said that it is free now, but it isn’t so that means he’s.
I use an Apple Watch and was considering getting a whoop. My friend has one and it gives much more indicators and analysis than my old fitbit and the Apple health app. I tried Bevel because i didn’t want another band on my hand. Note I fully understand if you don’t like to wear watches then the whoop is excellent at being light and giving tremendous insights. I found the insights from bevel and the Apple Watch to be equivalent to what my friend shared though there are differences and some items having more depth on each. I have GERD and am actively managing what i eat and simultaneously trying to eat all my daily healthy food allowances. I just started using the food tracking feature on bevel and it is a game changer. I can easily add foods via the bar code. I now track activity calories as well as consumption and proper nutrition along with health monitoring. And it integrates with Apple Health so liquids are accounted for (tracking my water intake which I won’t get enough of if not careful). Overall for me the bevel app subscription and Apple Watch are a better combination than other bands. One thing i do note on the food tracking is any little red meat gets a fast -10 mark, but you have to eat a wholr vegetable garden it seems to get a +10 for veggies. Has a vegetarian programmed this? Oh well, eating more veggies is good for my GERD anyway.
First issue I noticed is that, when I log Indoor Cycling it treats it as Outdoor Cycling with a name change. I have talked to Bevel on several channels with no improvement. In addition to the above I currently have the following problems. First, Cardio Load keeps flatlining. At first a force close fixed it and it happened every couple of days. Now only clearing cache and reloading all data helps, and it happened twice today alone. Second, workout start times are not aligned with the selected start time. I start a workout at 2:44pm, it doesn't begin tracking the workout where the log has 2:44pm set as the start time until 2:44.55pm. How many exercise sets can you do in 55 seconds? Unacceptable. This app is still the best fit I've found for my needs, but there are enough problems now that I'm close to looking for a better one. Three bugs in the basic features, minus three stars in the rating.
Not just for health and training, best overall! Packed with features, yet easy to navigate. Visualizes all your data in a breeze. Really really cool!
Overall, the idea is great. Unfortunately, I constantly find myself having to recheck the data for errors made by the AI. My barbell work will get doubled as dumbbell volume for no reason. I’ll provide macros for a homemade recipe, specifically name it, state that name exactly, and Bevel AI will go rogue and want to log different/incorrect macros. The images for the workouts will sometimes just be flat wrong. If I hadn’t paid for a year subscription, I might seriously consider switching to a different macro tracker. Until the workouts get fixed, I’ll need to switch back to Hevy to ensure it’s all being logged properly. I’ll ride out the year to see if there are significant fixes in the AI logic. For the time being, it’s a jack of all trades and master of nothing.
