Goes everywhere with me. Provides entertainment for my whole family.
I’m being forced to watch political ads for Los Angeles when I live two thousand miles away. Besides the horrible ads repeatedly playing there’s not many good titles and way too many bugs like not saving watch history.
Plex has SO much potential and honestly could be way better! Especially because it’s not just for tracking movies/shows, it also has free in app streaming kinda like Tubi, which is a huge plus. The concept is amazing and there’s so much customization, but the app performance and syncing issues make it hard to fully enjoy. Once you start adding a lot of movies, shows, ratings, watchlists, etc., the app becomes laggy and almost unusable. I constantly get “A connection error occurred” and then can’t use the app again for several minutes. It crashes a lot too, and this has been happening since I first started using it a year or so ago. The tracking system also gets really buggy. If I mark something as watched and later rewatch it through Plex’s free streaming service, it starts duplicating entries instead of tracking correctly. I literally have movies showing up multiple times in my watched list, and if I try removing one entry, it removes all of them. Same thing happened with the show “Weeds”, I already had the show marked as watched, but when I rewatched it through Plex, it started individually remarking every episode as watched again, so now I have duplicates of basically the entire series. Plex genuinely has the potential to be one of the best movie/show apps out there because the features are so good, but the bugs, crashing, syncing issues, and connection errors seriously need attention. If everything was working properly i’d give the app a 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Can’t even watch a show without it constantly skipping…
The recent app updates make this unusable. There’s no way to access your own media files.
Removed all ability to use playlists on iPad. Playlist navigation is unusable because you can’t even see if an episode name or if it was played. Auto play next episode no longer works. I contacted tech support and was told playlists were not depreciated but they are absolutely unusable.
It’s a scam- it makes it look like it has all this great content but you can’t actually watch anything! Even when I specifically choose free shows, it gives me stuff I can’t watch. Or it allows you to watch a single episode and then blocks the other 11 seasons. I will stick to Tubi and Pluto which only show you content that you can really watch!
Have been a longtime user and lifetime plex pass holder. Have really enjoyed the plex experience for personal media, but ever since they tried to become a streaming service as well, things have gone downhill - offline downloads somehow now require the app to be online.. don’t know how that is supposed to work for roadtrips with kids on iPads with no connection. They had a major price hike last year, which was/is a hard pill to swallow, but now upping that same price over 3x again for lifetime plex pass.. makes it a very hard app to recommend now. All in the name of development of an app that is to host your own media.. maybe stop trying to be a streaming service (which has b movie titles and is trash anyways) and focus on what made your product great to begin with, actually hosting, and you’d have plenty of money for development.
Playing videos on the app causes your device to run at 100% power causing massive heat usage and damaging your battery
Plex was only one media server which I used for more then a decade but for several years it became cluttered with junk. Then they added subscription to stream your own media server and more and more prices went up! Lifetime subscription was quite huge price as-well 120$ but thats a child's play after they raised prices to somewhere 250$ or so but now they just went all in to force users to subscribe because their current lifetime price ia just crazy :) 750$? are you serious plex? byebye :) migrated to jellyfin. Will never ever return back to that cluttered service youve become.
