In the last few months too many main articles have turned to subscription only access. Free press is in jeopardy literally. Removed the app.
Like so many things that were once good and useful, this app is now ruined by a paid subscription and is only useful for headline scanning and an occasional “free” story that’s mostly useless. Likely removing the app soon. Apple News without a subscription is far better now.
A large number of articles are now labeled “for subscribers only”. I’m switching to other news sources.
When I installed the new app on my iPhone 12, every time I opened it the screen was blocked by demand for my "screentime code." I've never activated screentime, and that had never happened before. When I deleted the NBC News app, the problem disappeared.
No longer any use since you have to pay for most important stories. Making money hand over fist and now trying to make us pay for basic news. DELETED!
Can we not just have a free news app? Does everything have to be a money grab?
The fact you guys are putting full breaking news alerts as subscriber only now is pathetic. The entire app is unreadable unless you subscribe now. Truly disappointing.
I can understand having a subscription for premium content, but the app has literally become unusable due to all of the subscription-only article that is being displayed now. Why are you asking me to pay for content that was literally free a month ago?! I’m more inclined to delete the app. I’m not paying for basic news stories NBC.
When almost every story you have is listed as “For Subscribers” there is no reason to have the app. Goodbye and thanks for the years of news. I’m sorry it had to end.
Most of the content has turned into subscription only. Leaving for a different news app 👋🏻
So I just removed this app from my phone because it’ll have a headline story up and no sooner than I start to read the first few words, it switches the tile to something else. Three seconds after looking at the tile, only to bury the story so far down in the app that you’re scrolling and hunting, looking for the story that caught your eye. Well guess what NBC News, your app is no longer on my phone because your bait and switch algorithm sucks. You’re more worried about clicks and scrolling engagement than allowing somebody to read the news that is readily available literally everywhere. Keep your app keep playing the metrics games where you’re more worried about contact than people actually reading your content and your app will die just like many others. You wonder why your readership is falling off and more people don’t pay to subscribe.
Recent version much worse than older versions of this app. Can’t pause video - can’t do anything but X to close a video now. Can’t rewind. Tapping the screen to view controls results in controls instantly disappearing.
