Hieroglyphics Pro has been developed and evolved in consultation with professional Egyptologists. This app explains what the ancient symbols mean, how they may have been pronounced and how they formed words and phrases. The App contains: - 4124 hieroglyphic signs - 223,111 words, phrases, titles, epithets, and locations used in Ancient Egypt. - The Horus, Birth, and Throne names of all the known Pharaohs and Queens of Egypt. Our dictionary has almost triple the content of any other smartphone dictionary/translation apps. Hieroglyphics Pro has several modes: - Beginner mode simplifies the App with a minimal set of 200 glyphs for easy searching and an easy pronunciation guide. - Student mode show the standard Middle Egyptian Gardiner set of about 700 glyphs, organized by shape, and standard transliteration. - Pro mode uses all 1,071 glyphs in Gardiner's classic categories plus more than 3000 additional signs used in the dictionary. A unique, powerful feature of Hieroglyphics Pro is the ability to find glyphs by how often they are used in inscriptions. This makes adding common signs to a phrase or word a snap! Egyptian words and phrases in the dictionary are drawn graphically in quadrat groups, in the artistic style of the ancient inscriptions. The App now offers 6 ways to enter Hieroglyphs for translation: • Graphically from Gardiner groupings, or in Beginner Mode, plus Gardiner's/Manley's Groupings by shape - A unique feature allows finding glyphs sorted by their frequency of use! • Direct keyboard text entry of Gardiner codes (i.e., A1, D21, Aa2) • Typing in phonetic shortcuts as defined by the MdC (i.e., Htp, nTr, r, etc.) • By transliteration symbol from the Phonetic shortcuts table • Searching for keywords in a glyph's description or determinative words Text entries of Gardiner Codes and MdC can now be edited with a cursor and finger swiping, just like other text editing apps! Very quick and convenient! Egyptians wrote Right to Left, Left to Right, and Top to Bottom. The App allows you to enter Left to Right, and then view the Glyphs in reverse direction if you wish. HieroglyphPro allows you to add/store/transmit their own custom words to the dictionary. Hieroglyph Pro is the first and only mobile App to introduce Hieratic (a style of cursive, handwritten Egyptian) glyphs, and illustrate how they evolved over the centuries. Hieroglyphics Pro is a modern iOS 26 App, back compatible back to iOS 14, Dark Mode and all. It contains help files and links to both on-line references and to printed books for advanced study. The app and its dictionary data are entirely self-contained. No internet or cell phone required. The new optional link to the Thesaurus-Linguae-Aegyptiae (TLA) academic database does, however, require wifi or cell connection. When you have found the translation your were seeking, with a tap it is copied on to the clipboard and can be pasted into another App, an Email, message, etc. Hieroglyph Pro is a one-time purchase! Enhanced the new search modes (English translation, MdC transliteration, lemmaID) to include clipboard saving and direct Wörterbuch access. Many little user experience enhancements. Search results Gardiner Codes that start with a wild card "?" now are listed at the bottom of the search table. Many Dictionary enhancements: More vocabulary, more parts of speech, more lemmaIDs to existing words, reduced redundancy. Based on legal counsel, because of differences in international copyright laws, we are required to limit access to the internal copy of the Wörterbuch der Aegyptischen Sprache by Erman & Grapow to certain regions including the US, Egypt, China and other "life + 50" countries. The EU recognizes "life + 70" as protected so the WB is not yet public domain. We apologize and are pursuing legal workarounds.

Excellent service and care for this resource. There was a minor glitch in one version of the app, but the developer quickly responded and repaired it.
This app doesn’t translate basic symbol phrases and doesn’t have any phases stored. Some of the glyphs have not phonics and meaning with them.
This app will be going with me to every tomb I visit!!
I am a complete beginner, but have been amazed at how much I have learned so far. I've been delving into the Help section, which is where you find a course in both learning the writing and the language. It's based on a website available on the web, but made convenient on a mobile device. I was moved to write this when I saw that they are continuing to update with new words, even though this is not a subscription based app. I've bought a book it recommends for complete beginners, which compliments the app nicely. *Update: I am so very impressed with the updates for additional words. This is not an orphan app, begun and forgotten. Just the opposite. We benefit from current scholarship

As an amateur Egyptologist, I don’t know what I would do without this. Many options for glyph input, great extra features and options, easily the most helpful tool I have. Great for museum trips and self study alike. 10/10, a full dictionary in your pocket for a fraction of the price.
I decided to get this app because I have always been fascinated by Ancient Egypt. It is easy to use and well-organized. It’s been a neat thing to use to pass the time. When it’s safe to travel again, this would be a great companion to bring with you to Egypt. Impress your travel companions!
I have a B.A. in Anthropology from Stony Brook University and Egyptology was a class I really liked. I would definitely recommend this translator. It makes translating glyphs easy and with available context. Combined with the Pharaohs and Queens apps from this developer I would have had straight A’s had these existed earlier!
Works as described. Great for checking out the tomb paintings in my Egypt books. I’d love to take the app to the museum when it reopens!
