Capital Weather

I’ve always followed and trusted them and am glad they left the Washington Post. I’m loving the app for providing all the information we need to be prepared for weather threats and I love the way notifications come through!

This afternoon I downloaded the app and saw the warnings for this evening about potential storms and cautioning about high winds. Meanwhile my Apple Weather app said this evening would be partly cloudy. It’s currently storming outside with very high winds and my power has been going in and out. Now I know the Capital Weather app is what I can actually rely on for an accurate forecast. Thank you to the team and keep up the great work!

I organize a snow removal brigade for my neighborhood. Last winter, we tracked multiple weather sites, including NOAA. The Capital Weather Gang nailed it every time! I don’t bother looking at the others anymore.

I have tons of weather apps. This one is by far the best. Updated by local professionals with in depth forecast details. I really like the radar as well.

Love CWG and excited to find everything in one place without a paywall after canceling my WaPo subscription. A Capital Weather customized widget (providing not just the generic weather anywhere but the daily score, commentary, etc) would be stellar.

This is amazing. These guys are finally accessible without WaPo! And the app seems amazing, and with minimal ads so far! They have an all-in-one tab, and hourly tab, and a 10-day tab, with the best difference being that they’ll tell you to the minute when light rain is expected to begin, then heavy rain, and when it ends. Then you can start to make sense of why they - and all weather apps - put percentages on the chances of rain in any given hour. Also included are interesting articles that help explain weather phenomena. My guess is, this will also be far more accurate than all the other weather apps, seeing as how this crew is typically more accurate for weather in the region. They seem to have incorporated forecasts for weather outside the district (my guess is that data may be pulled from other sources, but still in a nice, accessible format).

I’m so excited about this! In a world of corporate journalism takeovers + the fact that NOAA is sadly probably a shell of itself, I’m excited to have an option for weather that I can really trust. Especially in the DMV where flash floods can be life threatening. The one thing that would make this app perfect: audio news updates! I love hearing the weather briefing on WAMU and would be so psyched to have direct access to it from this app.

The app is great and the weather is always well reported with confidence scores to help you know how possible that forecast is. CWG is who I’ve always trusted and I’m proud to support them in this new chapter!

In my 14 years in the DC area, Capital Weather has been a vital source of weather information and explanation. But I’m annoyed that the app has asked for always-on location information twice in two minutes. Why? Charge money for the app, whatever, just don’t be a nag for my location data.
