Gankogui
🇯🇵 JP LocalizedDescription
Gankogui is the iron double bell that plays the timeline rhythm for Ghanaian drum and dance music. All other musicians in the ensemble relate the timing of their parts to the gankogui rhythm. Gankogui is the West African ancestor of Afro-Caribbean clave. The Gankogui app offers users a library of Ghanaian timeline rhythms with authentic sound samples and flexible-tempo playback. Learners and practitioners of West African drum and dance music can use Gankogui as a powerful practice tool. Musicians and researchers can utilize the broad library of timeline rhythms to expand their knowledge of West African rhythm. Instrumentalists from all backgrounds can use Gankogui as a more exciting, advanced, and musically pleasing alternative to a standard metronome. Reflecting the origins of these traditional bell patterns, the app is organized into two categories: Asante and Ewe. Asante features twelve timeline patterns using Kete and Fontomfrom dawuro sound samples. Ewe features eight bell patterns utilizing gankogui sound sample playback.
