User Reviews
Regular abrupt stops, locks up frequently, sudden endings. it started out decent enough but has deteriorated over the past few weeks. Please fix it. Because there some good quality sounds. Would not recommend until it gets fixed.
Love the app and music. How about some organ trio tunes?
Nice tracks, but wish I could lower the output vol in the app. Like set a max limit.
Good instrumentalists and fun to play with but … For an unknown reason all my edits, ie: key changes, metronome changes and instruments selections were wiped out. Also on Gentle Rain I can’t put it into A minor which is how I play it and it used to be in Quartet as A minor. Haven’t had a chance to check everything else out.
Like others have mentioned, the abrupt endings with no turn around are just bad. On top of that there are a lot of wrong chords and awkward changes. Some are exactly the same bad changes from iReal. In some cases the chords in the charts are not what the players are actually playing, for example, the Cmaj7 on Road Song is actually played Cm7, which is the correct chord, and there many other wrong chords in other tunes, like in some of the blues tunes charts are not what the players are actually playing. It seems like lazy programming. I cannot recommend this app to my students and fans. The mix/mastering is also not good or consistent, also noticeable is the out of tune bass in Ain’t No Sunshine.
The idea and backing tunes are awesome. But the UI is so bad it makes this whole app almost unusable and makes me prefer the midi iReal. Changing to tempo is a total pain because the markings are so small and it only changes one tempo point at a time. Then there’s the matter of finding songs. The font colors are poorly chosen so it’s hard to read what you’ve typed out. Also having all the tunes spread out over four apps is so messy. Cool backing tunes but they should’ve had someone spend just as much time in fixing the UI as they spent recording the tunes.
Nice app , great job guys , excellent selection of jazz standards. BUT please make a Dark mode option for us that get blinded with that glaring white screen ;)
As I say in the title, this is a very nice sounding app. The recordings are very nice, but it could use some improvement so here’s my wish list: 1. Add a tap tempo button. 2. It would be nice to be able to make your own charts and have the band follow in different styles. 3. Not all recordings are super nice. Most of them are, but for example, Fly me to the Moon the drums are horrible. 4. There is no mixer to play with the levels of the instruments. It would be nice to have a mixer. 5. You can only export the file to M4A format it would be nice if you could export to WAV file and MP3 which are more commonly used. 6. It would also be nice if you could export the chord chart as a normal chart or have a choice to view the chords in different ways normal chart or the default way. 7. You have a choice of having the Quartet playing, having Bass and Piano or bass and Drums, but there is no way to just have Drumms only Adding a mixer with alleviate this. 8. The endings have no turn around like a lot of standards do so they end abruptly and well… it be nice if we had the choice. 9. There is no intuitive way to play your personal playlists, you have to click the Edit graphic to be able to see the list you created also as you make your list it’s displayed backwards the first file you add will show up last and the last file you make will show up first. There is a way to rearrange the list but that’s an extra unnecessary step. 10. A lot of the swing files are really fast though they sound nice that speed may not be what the audience is familiar with for example A Foggy Day is recorded at 200 bpm when the most famous recording is around 150 bpm that’s a lot of difference maybe they should have two versions of the song the one they want and the bpm tempo of the one that’s the most famous recording. Like they have two versions of Autumn Leaves. As for bouncing: You can bounce to stems for an extra fee or 99¢ per song, it should really be for free I mean the bundle is almost $40 and each separate is $15 a lot of music apps allow stems for free. All in all I really like it and I recommend it but hopefully they will be developing and adding these much needed features for free.
Overall great app. One annoying feature - having to change tempos one number at a time. Would love a feature where you could type in a tempo or scroll quickly through speedups/slowdowns. Now it takes 50 clicks to go from 150 to 200 bpm! Otherwise, a wonderful app and a great tool for learning jazz.
Quartet review The repertoire and musicianship of the tracks are excellent. However, I find the user-interface awkward and counterintuitive. Playlists: I can create a playlist by selecting songs once, but once it’s created, I can only delete songs or re-order them. I cannot add new songs to a playlist once I’ve created it. It appears that playlists are meant to play songs in sequence just like other music-listening apps. But this is not how I want to use playlists. I want to use playlists only for organizing songs that I want to practice to find them easily in one list and pick one and play. But to do that I have to “Edit” the playlist before I can choose the song I want to play. Tempo: To change a tempo, I have to click on the “+” or “-“ buttons repeatedly to change the tempo one BPM at a time. I can’t just type a number I want in an edit window. Contrast in search window: When my iPad is set to dark mode - white text on black background - the insert-cursor, text, and the background of the search window are all dark making it difficult to read what I type. Music Layout: Music is always rendered as two measures per line. I’m used to reading four measures per line for standard 32-bar forms. Look at how iReal displays charts. Window size limit: I cannot resize the window to be smaller than about 90% of my iPad 15 Pro screen. This app’s window doesn’t need to take up so much space. The music chart layout could be much more compact, even if it were to render four measures per line. Again, look how iReal manages rendering a chart when its window is resized. It can be much smaller and still legible. This app has good “bones” but the UI badly needs a redesign to make this app look and interact more like I’ve learned to expect in most other music players, since that is what Quartet is essentially - a music players that specializes in practice tracks curated by its creators. For this reason I give 4 starts instead of 5. I hope its creators will address these issues for the next major release.
