Gem - Money tracker

This app is mostly very easy to use, and laid out fairly well. It took a lot of initial work to get things set up the way I would use them — some things feeling unintuitive (wallets vs categories vs accounts as an example). The main reason I wanted to use this app was tracking finances with my wife. Unfortunately, the sync seems to be pretty broken. It works for a day or two, then completely breaks and becomes disconnected. She then has to delete the app, redownload, and reconnect just to sync changes. That will not work long term so I am looking for an alternative for us. I realize that feature is in beta, but it doesn’t really work at all.

When I saw the 29¢ price and no data collected, I purchased Gem instantly. Honestly I just wanted to support a dev who makes a clean looking app and doesn’t charge $15 a month. Then I was blown away by the quality, like this is a really, REALLY well done app. For a lot of apps I think the terms simple and minimal sometimes gets used as an excuse to have bad UX, missing features, or an ancient UI. This app however is simple in concept, simple to use, but feels well thought out, very complete, and like it had real effort put into its functionality and appearance. Edit as of Sep-2025: App is continually getting improved and just got a huge update including things I requested. This app is so good that it is single-handedly keeping me on iPhone when I want to swap to android. GOAT developer, and this app is the best kept secret on the entire App Store as far as I’m concerned. ❤️

The remaining budget always shows wrong - there is always a mismatch between the widget and in app data . Still no fixes . Not recommended as of march 27,2025

I love it, the only inconvenience is that it’s manual tracking but It gives me the option of going back to tracking my own spend it feels like I’m tracking it by myself like I would on paper but in a app instead… I would recommend to anyone seeing how much and how often they spend to break habits and budget better and while keeping track of saving goals.

I purchased this app listed as 49 cents on the app store. Then apple keeps trying to bill me 54 cents every few days for this app despite already buying it? Why am I being charged several times for this app? I dont want a subscription and nothing in this app said it was so why am I being charged several times.

This is the best looking and practical expense tracking app I’ve found. Very responsive developer with useful changes being made to the app regularly. Best digital purchase I’ve made in a long time!

Why can't I create account not only in default currency but also in different one. It would be soooo nice to have that feature. Also the ability to make a transfer between accounts in two different currencies would be welcome. And in case you are going to implement this feature note that in real life different banks have different exchange rates, so it is absolute necessary to allow user to inter the amount spent in one currency and amount received in another. Using third-party API’s to load exchange rates is not the way to go. (Like many other apps do). You can add it as an additional info, but you must let the user do what l described above. Will give it 5 stars if you actually implement these features

So far the app is great , just a few quality of life additions would be nice. Such as the ability to adjust the main UI and how its elements are shown. The only issue I have encountered so far is that the transfer from accounts does not reflect properly across shared accounts with a partner.

Really love the simple yet adorable interface! Easy to manuever and track my budgets!
