Overcast: Podcast App

Reliable and stable.

I finally deleted this app after having it installed for some years. Doing that freed up 50gig of space on my phone!!! That’s around 50% of my entire phones storage. And that’s AFTER previously deleting all downloaded podcasts. Truly moron-level programming. If this is Apple’s “editor’s choice “, it’s pretty obvious that that endorsement system is totally bogus.

See title. Maybe I’m inept, or maybe this app is completely busted. It won’t search. At all. This makes it completely useless.

I have loved this app for years, but in the past couple of months I am getting multiple ads what seems like every 15 minutes. I get the need for revenue but it is annoying and the ads are LOUD.

Overcast offers a premium experience at a lower price than its competitors, all while keeping the best parts free! Its smart speed feature is unmatched, and unlike other apps where silence trimming is obvious, Overcast’s is barely noticeable. It’s a well-designed and thoughtful app. The transcripts are a fantastic bonus. I love the ability to transcribe private feeds, a feature unique to Overcast. The design is both attractive and user-friendly, and while it initially took me time to appreciate the playlist-based organization, I’ve grown to love it. I’m definitely sticking with Overcast!

Daily podcast are not consistently downloading despite having background refresh enabled. More often than not I have to manually download the show. Streaming is just bad. If the show isn’t downloaded and I try to stream, it’s unreliable. The show will start to stream get about 2 minutes in then just drop. The app then automatically jumps to the next podcast. Used be a great app but I’ll just use Apple’s native app

I’ve been using this app since 2015 and have been holding on for the last year hoping you’d fix the bug that causes every non downloaded episode to skip to the next one 30 seconds after it starts. I’m done waiting, it’s so annoying and makes the app unusable. Get your s together overcast

For the first time in a long time I feel like I actually downloaded effective freeware from the AppStore, the subscription isn’t needed for all the features aside from history, which I wouldn’t use AND EVEN THEN I may buy it in the future because I am so appreciative of this product, it can download from any rss feed and as I want my podcast files downloaded en masse I had previously been downloading from pc rss downloaders (gp*der etc) and then transferring all of those files! Not only does this stop me from having to do that, instead letting me download them directly to my phone (if you want to install all episodes of a show mark the whole thing read, then unread) but it also automatically generates well timed transcripts!, previously I was quite inconvenienced by having to do that on my pc with whisper

I initially had issues with the app crashing and not skipping to the next podcast episode. Then I figured out it’s best to let the app download podcast episodes so I’m not streaming them. Once that was resolved, the app stopped crashing and it skips to the next episode. One complaint I do have, however, is I have to scroll through hundreds of episodes each time I want to go to the next episode in the series, as opposed to being sticky like Spotify.

Simple, easy to use, and reliable. Has any feature I could want and isn’t bloated with a bunch of features no one asked for. Has ads, but they are not intrusive and don’t impact QoL. I occasionally have issues skipping ahead with recently downloaded podcasts but otherwise have no complaints at all

Overcast gives me what I want most in a podcast app: simple interface, useful customization options, and doesn’t collect heaps of unnecessary user data. Definitely recommend.

Was getting ads on my tv about podcasts I’d listen to on Spotify. Switched to overcast and that doesn’t happen any more!
