It's not only the app, even the website has the same flaws. There is no way to clear your inbox other than individually archiving each item. There is no way to mark all read. There is no way to filter your inbox to just see unread. So, after 2 years on the app, my inbox is perpetually full of unread articles that I don't care to read. The icon on my desktop perpetually says I have unread messages waiting. C'mon guys. It's not that hard.

What a fabulous conversation between Diane and Ann Patchette! I’ve read several of her books but now I intend read the rest. Such a prolific writer; it was interesting to hear how she uses her imagination and life memories for her stories. If you’re in a music scene, or scene-adjacent, you are feeling the changes. Post-Covid music venue hours and bookings, less promo more pay to play. Releasing your own work. Having to act as your own label. The push and pull of community. The seemingly ever present scent of nostalgia as though music was better …. back then Wrestling with overwhelm. Needing to attract attention to your own work. At the same time despising the time it takes, and all of the look and listen to me-ness. Why not write about the existential trials of modern music making from a personal perspective? I have committed to Substack because so many writers I love have done so. I hope this is relevant. Thanks for reading.

I think this app is an excellent way for people to share complex ideas with one another in an easy to consume way. It’s a nice change from instagram and TikTok.
