Gleam: Social Intelligence

I downloaded the app cuz I saw it on TikTok. While it is interesting I am not willing to instantly pay for the app. It gives you one free “lesson” then hits you with a paywall.

This review is based only on the sign-up, I never actually made it into the app. Two huge red flags: 1) Despite multiple opportunities to say how much the app subscription costs, it does not indicate this anywhere. You’re expected to agree to a 5-day trial and then be charged through the app store. My assumption is they’re angling for maximizing first-month revenue. 2) The sign-up process feels like every other self-help app: it starts out with perfunctory questions to prime you to imagine how it might help you and then rather than letting you try out the app first, they immediately convert you to a trial subscription (see above). In my experience with other apps, these initial questions are not conveyed on to the app, so the point of the questions is purely to convince you to convert to a subscriber, and not to actually be used for your benefit. (Having not used this app, I dont know for certain this is the case — but it has all the hallmarks of these poor quality self help apps) Install the app, if you want, you’ll see the issues I mentioned right away.

I can’t go further than initial setup because this app requires credit card info up front. “Free” trial or not. I’m not giving you credit card info BEFORE showing me anything. Deleted.

I just downloaded this app today and I feel like its so far helping me to understand others and myself and situations. I already understand a little bit more and I feel I can improve myself with this apps support and others support

Seems fantastic but the price seems a bit absurd.

This app will allow you to do the first lesson for free and then you have to pay for a subscription. I’m sure the app is helpful if you are willing to pay for the subscription, but personally I find this to be a huge waste of time.

The app gives examples that are common. Makes you answer questions that makes clear sense and recaps to remember what’s happening. Then to follow that, they make you answer in your own words what you learned to make sure you understand!

The update looks nice, but feels dumbed down. All the content has been replaced and all user progress lost. There are fewer lessons now and fewer categories to choose from. The questions and answers often feel too easy now, and the AI art is distracting. Ive used it a lot the last couple weeks and given the update a chance. I think it has lost a lot of value it once had. The app itself teaches about how we are more deeply affected by loss than we are uplifted by an equivalent gain. Im sure a lot of the user base was frustrated by the sudden loss of all the old content and progress. Can you bring any of it back?

So I was scrolling on TikTok and I’ve seen a few videos abt his app they was talkin abt how this changed a cousin of theirs from the shy introvert to the confident extrovert and I was like I need this all they said was this app l JUST like Duolingo key word just so I look this up on the AppStore and I look at the recommend ages and it says 12+ and I’m like ok this is good cause I ain’t 18 and got no money then I go into the review’s and one of them talkin abt how you need to pay a subscription to use the app and I’m like wth cause u gon let a twelve year old on here when theirs a subscription we’ll talk abt that more later then I see the developer respond sayin that they fixed it and users don’t have to get a subscription to use it so I download it and I creat and profile or whatever then I see sum to sign up for a subscription and I’m like what I thought u didn’t have to do so I’m lookin for the little x to show up cause like they said we ain’t have to…. It ain’t show up. And I leave the app and go back in and it let me do one round jus one ☝️ and I’m like why they letting 12yr olds on here if theirs a subscription but then I remember it asked for my age and it started at 18 not 12 18 and I’m like I thought it was recommended for people 12 and older but I guess it’s not. Imagine a 12 yr old got this subscription thinking they would cancel the subscription and using they mummy credit card then they don’t causing problems so if ur gonna have a required subscription and recommend this app for ages 12+ jus don’t do it.

Advertises as free, instantly hit with aggressive pay walls. You can find things that will help that you don’t need to be manipulated into buying and then paying for.

I found this in September of 2025, got a yearly plan. They ran a massive overhaul a few weeks ago and absolutely ruined the app. Canceled my subscription unfortunately. My favorite feature was the quests and challenges, especially generating custom challenges for myself. They gutted it. Time to vibe code a browser version of that functionality for myself and just use that I guess.

At least let people try it without peoples data
