Is working seamlessly. Found a great feature in settings to get rid of um’s and uh’s automatically. Using it on iPad with m chip

That’s really frustrating. Initially it worked fine, but now it consistently doesn’t save some of transcriptions and you cannot recover that. Extremely frustrating and discouraging experience

Whisper Notes is a solid app overall. I really like that it runs locally on-device, is fast, private, and does not require a subscription. The transcription is impressively quick, and the Whisper option does a good job with technical terms compared to a lot of built-in dictation tools. My main complaint is that on newer, more powerful iPhones, I wish there were higher-quality Whisper model options available. My phone can clearly handle the current models very quickly, so I would gladly trade speed for accuracy and let a larger model take longer if it meant better transcription. Right now the iOS model options feel limited compared to what newer hardware should be capable of. Still a good app and worth the price, but I hope future updates add more powerful downloadable model options for newer iPhones.

Won’t run in the background so you have to babysit the transcription the whole time, otherwise it craps out- and there’s no function to pick up from where you left off, you have to start all over again. This makes the process tedious and time-consuming, even in “fast” mode.

started using Whisper Notes during my morning commute to capture random ideas before I forgot them, and it’s been surprisingly accurate even when I’m speaking quickly. I tested it with both short reminders and longer brainstorming sessions, and the transcription was cleaner than I expected with very little editing afterward. I also like that the interface stays simple instead of burying basic features under too many menus. It’s become useful for quick work notes and journaling when I don’t feel like typing everything out manually.

As someone who is in the process of discovering AuDHD midlife/definitely neurodivergent, typing often becomes a bottleneck for me. My thoughts move faster than my fingers can keep up, and a lot of apps feel bloated, distracting, or fragile. Whisper Notes is the exact opposite. It’s lightweight, tastefully designed, FAST, rock solid, and the 💯 on-device transcription is honestly incredible. But wait — the Mac app is just as good with a system wide keyboard shortcut!!!! I can quickly get thoughts out naturally by speaking instead of fighting to organize everything through typing. That has made a massive difference for journaling, logging ideas, daily reflections, and just reducing friction in general. You can tell this app was built carefully and intentionally. Highly, highly recommended!!!!!

For some reason it waited until after I purchased the app to tell me my device wasn’t fully supported (the app page says that my iPhone and iOS is supported). The app has instructions for scrolling down to a link to request a refund, but the app always crashes before I can reach it.
