This material was used with permission from the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Additional information was obtained from American Academy of Pediatrics Red Book 2009. Information on cystic fibrosis was obtained from the 2003 Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Guideline, “Infection Control Recommendations for patients with cystic fibrosis: microbiology, important pathogens, and infection control practices to prevent patient to patient transmission”.
