We recommend dividing the island into at least 2 driving days. 1) North and Eastern Kauai. This half of the island tours through the famous northern beach and resort areas of Hanalei and Princeville. The tour continues all the way to the end of the road at Ke’e Beach. Between Princeville and Lihue we’ll explore many fine beaches and the vibrant town of Kapa’a. 2) South and Western Kauai. The resort area of Poipu is home to south shore's best beaches and the island’s most famous blowhole. Drive further for the artsy town of Hanapepe. From historic Waimea, we travel up Kauai’s volcanic mountains to the superb Waimea Canyon and continue to the awe-inspiring viewpoints of Koke’e Park perched above the Na Pali Cost. There’s much more to see as we drive and GyPSy will be you very own tour guide all the way. NOTES Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network. ++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style DC outlet car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle. ** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine. We just returned from our honeymoon to Hawaii. I purchased both the Maui and Kauai editions for our holiday as we planned to see all the sights in our rental SUVs. I was prepared with iPhone cords to keep my phone fully charged as we put on over 400 miles using both vehicles. Yes the entire trip we enjoyed the commentary from the gentleman with the facts and fun. He helped us find some places that the GPS missed in Hawaii. We HIGHLY recommend these applications for individuals looking to explore on their own.
This was our first visit to the Hawaiian islands and this app was a phenomenal help to us. Not only does it comfortably guide you to all the most important attractions, but it gives you some background on Hawaiian history in the stretches between them. Best few dollars I’ve spent in a long time.
We bought the Kauai version. Detailed explanation of Hawaiian people traditions and culture. Information on what is popular to eat was very informative. Location specific information while driving is a brilliant idea Need more of these guides for places around the world
Many little things add up to a big A-Plus! He gives just the right amount of “heads up” before each turn, with real-like markers that were easy to follow. We enjoyed the commentary, the history and even the real-life warnings about water conditions. We have seen local news reports of tourists who made really bad decisions when flash floods came through. We had a freat and safe time in Kauai. Mahalo!
Not wanting to join a group tour with a set schedule we downloaded this app hoping we could learn about the island on our own time and without others interjecting their own agenda. Our route was stop and go at our own will. We came and went to the same location several times and it was nice to have the information repeated, as we expected and enjoyed. I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to keep social distancing and still enjoy receiving information about locations and destinations that are so worth the trip!
