Blood Donor American Red Cross

I enjoy giving blood.

I have donated blood and Plasma and platelets for many years to support the lives of people that could not do it for themselves due to injuries or illnesses, long term or unexpectedly, even in wartime and foreign locations through the Red Cross and other humanitarian agencies depend on locations and countries. I am so grateful for blood services and the professionals and volunteers in various positions of delivering and receiving blood donors, phlebotomists at various levels, logisticians, administrators, money donors and so many others doing this service for humanity. I started donating platelets about 9 years ago due to my grandson needing platelets after he was born. I didn’t donate for him but started the 24 times a year and 12 of those times each year with plasma. I donate every two weeks on a regular basis and am on my 61st gallon of products having helped 483 people with units to provide relief of pain and life giving health.

It’s a convenient central info location to review when you’ll be eligible to donate next, as well as to see what hospitals have received your units of blood products. The badges helped me set goals and I still have a few more left to earn.

For the last couple of years, I have seen the app show points I have accumulated which are supposed to go towards gift cards or the Red Cross Shop and it's ridiculous. The points are given 100 at a time and sometimes taken away. The shop was supposed to open in January 2025 or 2026, I forget because it just feels like it's not going to happen. I don't understand (yes, I read why) the reasoning behind taking points away from someone and being in the hundreds rather than singles (1, 2, 3, etc) seems unnecessary. Also, I have looked at (from time to time) what is visible in the shop and I hope more options get added because it seems dull.

The American Red Cross is doing a wonderful service to help people in need of safe blood.

Nothing makes me feel better than helping to save someone’s life! You never know when you might be the one or someone you love may need it.

Wendi, Jessica, Valerie, Susan , Elizabeth, Cass , Brenda , Nora , Janet , Lucy, Marcus . Just wanted to name each person for doing such a great job for getting the platelets . They made me feel welcomed and really tried hard to keep me comfortable during the platelets donation. And I will especially thank Marcus for not letting pee my pants on my first donation years ago . Yes you read that right. We still laugh about that incident. 🤣 He gave me the low down on liquids on what not to do before coming in afterwards. Needless to say I goofed there !
