PhosphorWX is a retro-styled aviation weather station that delivers real-time METAR and TAF data through a distinctive CRT phosphor display. Browse over 1,000 major airports worldwide, organised by continent. Select any airport to instantly retrieve its current METAR observation, decoded into plain English — wind direction and speed, visibility, weather phenomena, cloud layers, temperature, dewpoint, pressure, and full remarks interpretation. FEATURES • Real-time METAR data from NOAA's Aviation Weather Center • Full METAR decoding — raw text plus human-readable breakdown of every field • TAF forecasts — tap the TAF button to view the terminal aerodrome forecast with decoded forecast periods, change indicators (TEMPO, BECMG, FROM), and probability groups • Flight category display — colour-coded VFR, MVFR, IFR, and LIFR indicators on both the detail view and home screen widget • Animated weather effects — falling rain, snow, hail, fog, and lightning flash overlays respond to actual reported conditions • Wind compass with pulsing directional arrow • Runway Visual Range (RVR) decoding • Detailed remarks interpretation including sea level pressure, precise temperature, precipitation totals, pressure tendency, peak wind, weather event timing, and sensor status • CRT scanline overlay and phosphor glow aesthetic throughout DISPLAY Choose between classic green or amber phosphor themes. Both update automatically and sync with your chosen colour theme. FAVOURITES Star your most-used airports for quick access. The favourites tab puts your regular stations one tap away. Long-press any airport in the list to toggle favourite status. DATA All weather data is sourced from aviationweather.gov, operated by NOAA's National Weather Service. This is the same authoritative source used by pilots, airlines, and air traffic control worldwide. Data is US government public domain with no copyright restrictions. METAR observations are cached for 5 minutes to balance freshness with responsible API usage.
