It was fun taking a ride on the bike around town. My only problem was that parking is not readily available or I did not get the information on where to park in this foreign country.
App is invasive and self imbues permissions it has no business needing. When not in use, it gathers location, bluetooth and activity data without requesting permission. If the initial setup wasn’t such a pain I would uninstall it, then install it once it’s needed.
I used this app to ride around Tokyo without any issues. I then look in the app and my wife and I both were charged $190 each for “parking in a wrong terminal”. When I reached out to their customer support explaining that I parked exactly where the app told me to. I was informed there was nothing they could do and that their system is perfect and without flaws. I asked for a phone number to call someone and they gave me nothing. They just informed me that they will be stealing my money with no review or dispute process. If this happens to you, they will take your money! If you make a mistake or the app makes a mistake when parking, they will take nearly $200 from each person involved with no concern and you will not be able to defend yourself or file any kind of a dispute claim. If I could give 0 stars I would. I could have bought a bike and done as many rides as I wanted to with the price my wife and I were charged for a GPS mistake.
I am writing to formally express my frustration regarding a recent subscription charge that occurred while using your app during my trip to Japan. As a foreign traveler unfamiliar with the local language and the specific UI of your application, I encountered a pop-up during the payment process. I mistakenly believed this was a discount coupon and clicked it, only to find that I had been signed up for a recurring subscription. I realized the error immediately and contacted your chatbot for a refund, but was told it was "not possible." This is deeply disappointing for the following reasons: Misleading Flow: For non-native speakers, the current UI flow can easily be perceived as a prompt for a discount rather than a long-term commitment. Zero Usage: I have not utilized any of the subscription features since the accidental sign-up. Fairness: Charging a traveler a significant amount for a service they neither intended to buy nor actually used feels like an exploitative business practice. I would like a logical explanation as to why a refund is denied for a service that has not been used, especially when the sign-up was clearly accidental. I kindly request a full refund of this unintended charge.
If you come to Japan and you don’t have transportation, good luck because this app will not work unless you verify your age with ID card there’s several types of IDs. They have the passport residence card, drivers license, and IC card yet they don’t work none of them work. I tried multiple different types of cards that I have from United States. I have my passport they asked I provided the passport and still they don’t verify. I submit the information. Yet it still doesn’t work sadly I cannot be able to use this bicycles for daily activities. I’m staying in Japan for three months. I come to Japan and stay three months. Every year therefore I need transportation I know there’s a train. I know there is a bus public. Transportation is available but to a certain time. The public transportation ends at 12 AM depending where you are. Not in Tokyo, I’m not in Osaka and I’m not in a big city I’m staying in a small town where there is no public transportation after 12 AM. The last train runs at 11:45 PM or 12 AM. The bus stops providing transportation around 11 PM so you may ask yourself I need to go to the convenience store. Do more things I need to do my laundry. I need to dry my clothes, but you cannot do anything without this app. This app is absolute garbage it actually verifies your SMS text message it verifies your it verifies when you submit the rules of traffic but when you want to submit your ID card such as passport, they know that you are using phone number and you are submitting the SMS text message that they therefore it should be understandable that the passport should work yet. It reads the information you input the information. Easy to read and submit yet the application provide you automatically information that is telling you that your age is not verified. Therefore it makes it impossible to use so if you’re gonna be in Japan, trying to go somewhere afterwards after this time frames or maybe just you don’t have a way to go anywhere because you don’t have a vehicle or a bicycle good luck I’m thinking about trying an Uber or probably using a taxi which I hate. I hate taxis in Japan they rip offs.

Many QR codes to scan, most lead to nowhere. Once manually downloaded the app it is impossible to input my birth date therefore no way to get an account. (Actually I figured out a work around for that - sadly!) ZERO customer service. Their web page is 100% Japanese to be positive no foreigner can complain or ask for help. We wasted many hours over several days with this company. Just avoid the frustration and travel by a different method. Parking the vehicle again is ridiculous- my hotel had 4 of 6 spaces EMPTY- but it was impossible to return there. I had to ride it 1 Km away from my hotel - although I rode past several other empty parking places all were FULL in the app. Super frustrating waste of time and money.
Overly long traffic quiz that requires a perfect score, followed by it unable to use a driver’s license with picture on the left meant I spent half an hour and ended up unable to use it. Uber, Lyft much easier.
How am I supposed to ride a scooter if it the ID scanner won’t scan my ID like it’s supposed to?
I followed the return location shown on the LUUP app, but at the actual site, there was no clearly marked area or signage for returning the vehicle. I spent quite some time looking, and eventually returned it to the nearest safe spot. Despite this, I was charged a penalty without any prior notice or warning. Since I used a debit card, I had no way to stop or reverse the payment. I contacted customer support afterwards, but have yet to receive any response. I am deeply disappointed by a system that completely ignores the user’s good faith efforts. It feels like LUUP penalizes users without taking any responsibility for the unclear guidance at return spots. If you’re considering using this app, be aware that even if you try your best, you may still get charged unfairly due to vague return instructions. /// LUUPのアプリで表示された返却エリアに向かいましたが、現地には明確な返却スペースやサインが一切なく、長時間探し回りました。最終的には、最も近くて安全な場所に返却しました。 しかし、事前の警告や通知もなく、自動的にペナルティ料金が引き落とされました。しかもデビットカード決済だったため、支払いを止めることもできませんでした。 その後、カスタマーサポートに問い合わせを送りましたが、現時点で何の返答もありません。 真面目に返却しようとした利用者の行動が一切考慮されない運営には、非常に失望しています。 これからLUUPを使う方は、現地の返却場所が不明瞭であっても、ペナルティが課される可能性があることを認識しておくべきです。
